The route is short and the going is very easy and flat. After initially following suburban roads going south from Melksham, it joins the Kennet and Avon Canal and heads East to Devizes. There is a detour from the canal to visit the 14th century church in Seend, and as we enter Devizes we pas the Caen Hill locks &emdash; a very significant feat of canal engineering.
