The Bath Pilgrimage 1986

Day 1: Hove to Henfield

Pilgrims gather in Hove - the first time we've started here.

As ever, the first job is to load the van, outside the Sacred Heart Church.

Snoopy leads the way down Norton Road...

...and the pilgrims follow.

West along Hove Sea Front...

...past the King Alfred Leisure Centre.

An unofficial stop at The Adur - no one is recorded as going in the lagoon this time!

Pilgrims cross the Old Shoreham Road...

...including visitng pilgrims with families.

The official lunch stop at Hangleton Manor.

Soaking up the sun...

...or seeking the shade of a tree.

Pilgrims with Fr David Weston, who was involved from the earliest days as uncle of pilgrims and Fr Bob's boss at Caterham.

Leaving after lunch.

Up past West Hove Golf Club.

Climbing towards the Devil's Dyke...

...as you get higher, the view back over Brighton improves.

The top was reached...

...and the descent begins.

Pilgrims stop to take the view of Chanctonbuty Ring

At Fulking, pilgrims are refreshed by the spring...

...though Stephen has more dramatic ideas for Jo.

Leaving Fulking, heading for the golden wheat fields...

...through which we then walk.

Our afternoon prayer stop at St Andrew's, Edburton.

Alan walks into Henfield - end of day 1!

The Parish Sister welcomes us to Henfield Village Hall.
